Hop on a train and head to Memphis, Tennessee - the home of Sun Studio, where Elvis took his first step into legend - now a ghost town of empty streets, rundown buildings and vagrant lowlifes. Jarmusch captures the same fun, heartbreak, romantic longing and rueful sense of time going by that epitomises The King's track, which lends its name to the movie.
At the city's Arcade hotel, three stories play out; the memorable hip Japanese couple on pilgrimage to Elvis' spiritual home, a young Italian widow beautifully played by Nicoletta Braschi, and a trio of men wanting to rob a liquor store, all of whom lead parallel lives that somehow never meet, despite their close quarters. Find humour in missed connections and embrace Jarmusch's unconventional storytelling in this fresh, original comedy.
