Join us for the world premiere of this new restoration of the ultimate dysfunctional family drama The Lion In Winter, the centrepiece of Cinema Rediscovered's tribute to the late cinematographer Douglas Slocombe.

In the South of France in 1183, the world's most powerful empire is in crisis. The ageing Henry II (Peter O'Toole) is coming to the end of his life and must choose one of his three surviving sons to inherit the throne. He summons all three, his wife Eleanor (Katherine Hepburn, who won her third Oscar® for her performance) - understandably prickly after being kept imprisoned for the past 10 years - his mistress and the king of France to join him to discuss the future of the crown.

Co-starring alongside Bristol-born Nigel Terry are a stellar cast of up-and-coming stars including John Castle, Jane Merrow, Anthony Hopkins and Timothy Dalton (in his first feature film). Add in the beautiful Oscar®-winning soundtrack from John Barry and the award-winning cinematography by Slocombe (the darkness, the light, the shadows and the colour all work tremendously together to really establish the atmosphere of the 12th Century) and you are in for a sensational film on all fronts... enjoy!

With an introduction from writer and broadcaster Matthew Sweet. Presented on DCP from a new 4K scan with thanks to StudioCanal.
