Bugs, beasties and high octane adventure combine in this delightfully charming animated tale of trust, teamwork and friendship.

In a peaceful little valley, the remains of an abandoned picnic sparks warfare between two tribes of rival ants. At stake - a tasty box of sugar. So when a bold young ladybug finds herself caught in the middle of the battle for the sweet tasting loot, she befriends one of the black ants, Mandible, whom together must protect the anthill from the encroaching red ant warriors, who have their own bug eyes set on the bounty.

Taking a similar approach to the first 30 minutes of Pixar’s Wall-E, this beautiful animation, full of gentle humour and deft physical comedy, is told entirely without dialogue. Blending spectacular live action backdrops with computer-generated bugs and cute creatures from the undergrowth, this tiny tale is a hugely entertaining extravaganza and a perfect fit for family members both big and small.

  • Before the film why not join experienced artist duo Alice and Karen from Let’s Make Art at our fun, hands-on Insect Vinyl Making workshop (Fri 18 Aug 10:00 - 12:00).
