We’re delighted to be screening this action packed boundary-breaking movie featuring work by Bristol-based animation talent Richard Williams.

The very first to combine live action and hand drawn characters in this way to create an entire feature (remember that animated dance number in Mary Poppins? Well, this is the full film version). Williams’ efforts won him an Special Achievement Award for his animation direction and creation of cartoon characters, and the film swiped no less than three Oscars of its own!

This technically stunning, ambitious multimedia caper brought darkness and a satirical edge to the screen: as a toon-hating detective (Bob Hoskins) becomes a cartoon rabbit’s only hope to prove his innocence when he accused of murder.

Thirty years old this year, we’re inviting audiences of all ages to join us to celebrate in the inventive and experimental spirit of this animated classic with a Bristol connection.

Screening with DepicT! short: Death in Space (Dir: Thomas Lucas, 2016, 54 secs).
