Artist, writer, researcher and curator Eryk Salvaggio presents a talk on the role of noise in generative AI systems. Noise is required to make these systems work, but too much noise can make them unsteady. Salvaggio will discuss how he works with the technical and cultural noise of AI to critique assumptions about "humanity" that have informed the way they operate.

Eryk Salvaggio is the creator of cyberneticforests.com, a website and mailing list exploring AI from a critically, artistically informed perspective. He holds a masters degree in media and communications and applied cybernetics. He has spoken at film and music festivals such as SXSW (Austin) and Unsound, hacker conventions such as DEFCON 31, and is a researcher for AI Pedagogy Project of the metaLAB (at) Harvard University who has published on AI myths and social impacts with Tech Policy Press.

Please note, the speaker for this talk will be presenting remotely via video call.
