With Mayfest in full swing, run by our lovely friends at MAYK, we have invited Composer and New Media Artist, Remy Siu who is working on Mayfest show, Town Choir to tell us more about his work.

Remy Siu 蕭逸南 (b.1990) is a composer and new media artist based in Vancouver, BC. Recently, his work has involved the construction of automated and variable performance apparatuses that employ light, sound, software, and the body. He is interested in creating friction and stakes between the performer, the interface, and the system through the use of game mechanics and failure. His output spans chamber music, dance, theatre, installations, and audio-visual work.Remy Siu is a composer and new media artist based in Vancouver, BC. His work focuses on the creation of performance apparatuses that employ automation and digital game mechanics as score. He will discuss how his music background, interdisciplinary performing arts processes, and the economic forces in Vancouver have collided to influence the development of his practice. He will speak about the systems that define his works "Foxconn Frequency (no.3) - for three visibly Chinese performers" and "new eyes - for [single] player."

This Lunchtime Talk is part of Open Studio Friday, which takes place at the Studio every week.
Do you want to find out what is going on at the Pervasive Media Studio? Are you interested in meeting our residents, talking about a specific project or curious about pervasive media? Why not pack a sandwich and join us for one of our Lunchtime Talks and Open Studio Friday. Lunchtime Talks are informal presentations by Studio residents and associates. They normally take place at 1pm on Friday, are free and open to everybody who’s interested in what we do. After the Talk, we also invite you to stay with us for the afternoon to continue the conversation or work on your own projects. We provide chairs, tables, wireless and a great space. You bring what you need to work with (laptop/mobile). Our open afternoons close at 5pm. Let us know if you’d like a tour of the space and we'll be happy to show you around just before the talk.
