An immersive installation consisting of vertical columns of light in glass, which responds to visitors movement and heartbeat
Inspired by huygens synchronisation - which explains how metronomes/pendulums swinging out of time come into synchronisation
How the idea of home isn't just a physical space - it's co-constituted by the people who inhabit it, or have inhabited it - its combination of people, feelings and architecture
How would it work?
- Each visitor has their own individual colour - the lights nearest to them pulse with their beat, in their colour as they move around the space.
- If people come near to each other their colours and pulses merge to become a shared heartbeat, then go back to their individual colours and pulses as they move away.
- The room ‘remembers’ who has been there in a collective heartbeat and colour that is a combination (averaging) of all the pulses and colours
Themes of individual and collective, chaos and control as active collaborators, human and non-human, personal and public, inside and outside. Visualising the invisible dynamics between things and make them experientially real
