In this Lunchtime Talk, interactive documentary specialist Judith Aston will present her ongoing collaborative work in Avonmouth. 

She will explain the principles of polyphony - a musical style where two or more independent melodies play at the same time. Judith will show how she is working with the interactive media platform Stornaway.io to create a catalyst for dialogue around Avonmouth’s possible and preferred futures. 

The talk will open up discussion on how the project maps onto the Three Horizons framework - a visual tool used to navigate complex change, map transformational potential, and build a shared vision for the future. This framework was pioneered by the Studio’s Co-founder, Bill Sharpe.

About Judith

Judith is an Associate Professor in Film and Digital Arts at UWE Bristol with an active portfolio of teaching and research. She co-founded i-Docs, the international research network bringing academia and industry together to discuss emerging forms of interactive and immersive documentary practice. 

She is a practising anthropologist and is passionate about approaches to storytelling which challenge conventional, hero’s journey, ways of thinking about harmony and conflict.

The Lunchtime talks take place in the Pervasive Media Studio Event Space. To access the Studio, please go to the Main Watershed Box Office entrance and go upstairs to the Café Bar. Walk across the cafe bar, turn right and walk towards the double doors. Go through into the corridor and walk all the way down until you reach the Studio. A member of staff will sign you in, and check your ticket, if you have booked.

The Studio is wheelchair accessible, and the events space has a hearing loop. The last talk of every month is BSL interpreted.
