Building A Martian House
A collaboration with scientists, architects, and the artists' local community to design and plan the build of a functional Martian house.Nicki Kent works with artist Ella Good to create socially engaged projects. They are currently working on a ten year series called A Decade With Mars.
Within this series each year they create a new work involving communities in thinking about the future. The project began in 2014 when they heard about a real manned mission to Mars set to happen in 2024. Since then they have been making projects that explore themes around the human colonisation of Mars. Their work is cross disciplinary. The thing that all their projects have in common is that they are all things that people can directly get involved with. Works have ranged from getting images of near space with communities in their local parks, to making a science fiction film with a group of 8 year olds.
They are currently working on their most ambitious project, to build a house models itself on what is needed to live on Mars with communities here in Bristol.
