This Lunchtime Talk with Studio Resident Vincent Baidoo will take you on a visually-led tour of holographic displays – screens that can create 3D digital images by bending light. Vincent will explore what’s already possible today and what still belongs in the world of science fiction. Using familiar pop-culture references – like the gesture-controlled screens in Minority Report, Fry’s holophonor solo in Futurama, and Princess Leia’s holographic message in Star Wars – he’ll look at how these fictional visions compare to the holographic displays being developed right now.
Expect an accessible dive into the technical and practical challenges that separate film fantasy from reality, and how creative ideas and engineering are coming together to bridge that gap. Vincent will share insights from his work and where he sees the holographic animation industry heading in the next few years.
