New Talent Residencies Showcase
Sold OutPlease note: This event took place in March 2018
Join us at this special showcase event, sharing work being made by Watershed’s current New Talent Residents, Lawrence Hoo & Michael Jenkins, Alec Stevens & Nikki Hogg plus Jon Flint & Vytautas Jankauskas.
Poet Lawrence Hoo and filmmaker Michael Jenkins are working together to develop CARGO, an immersive experience spanning four cargo containers, sharing the triumphs of people of the African diaspora. CARGO aims to inspire, raise ambitions and start new conversations about the future of Bristol.
Artist Alec Stevens and creative technologist Nicola Hogg are No Stone Unturned. Working in collaboration with writer Jo Kimber, they are creating a magical street game that blends sculpture, story, technology and gameplay, to uncover Bristol’s LGBTQ past. From seeking out hidden spaces, to learning a secret language, participants will rediscover a city they thought they already knew.
Designers Vytautas Jankauskas and Jon Flint are creating Somestic Media, a series of home appliances that satirically expose our relationship to social media. Their aim is to heighten our understanding how new technologies change the way we live and socialise, and what information we take for granted. Evoking humour and disconcertion, the work encourages us to reassess the impact social media has on our perception of time, distance and normality.
This Showcase will feature short talks about all this year’s projects. With each group sharing the thinking behind their work and where they hope to take it next. There will also be a chance to try out work-in-progress pieces and chat informally.
Our annual New Talent Residency programme actively supports practitioners who are starting out or changing career direction, to develop creative technology projects. We'd be delighted if you can join us.
Complimentary drinks will be served and the event will feature live BSL interpretation.
