Bristol Surf Cinema: Point of Change
classified 12ABristol Surf Cinema celebrates story-first surf filmmaking with this special screening of Point of Change, a powerful documentary by director Rebecca Coley.
Point of Change is the story of an island community changed forever by the discovery of a ‘perfect wave’ in the 1970’s, chronicling the first surfers to ‘discover' this Point at Nias Island, Indonesia, and the unintended dramatic consequences that followed. This compelling documentary feature film is told through a unique blend of previously unseen Super 8 archive, contemporary interview and beautiful animation, with an original score composed by academy-award winning composer Stephen Warbeck, and featuring exclusive new music tracks by Paul Oakenfold and local musicians.
Prior to the screening of Point of Change, Bristol Surf Cinema will be showing a small selection of homegrown UK short surf films, showcasing a diverse range of stories and styles from homegrown creatives.
Bristol Surf Cinema is a platform dedicated to championing inclusive, story-driven surf films — with representation, community, and creativity at its core. Stick around after the screening for drinks and conversation with fellow surf and film lovers.
The Sat 12 July screening of Point of Change will be followed by a live Q&A with the filmmaker.
