i-Docs 2018 is a three-day event dedicated to the expanding and evolving field of interactive documentary, hosted by the University of the West of England’s Digital Cultures Research Centre (DCRC) which is embedded within the Pervasive Media Studio. The fifth edition of i-Docs is convened by Judith Aston, Sandra Gaudenzi and Mandy Rose, and produced by Julia Scott-Stevenson.

While the ‘i’ in i-docs has to date explicitly denoted interactive, we have always been keen to hold the space open for thinking and practice about any work that engages the real and does so using digital media technologies. Innovative forms under consideration within i-Docs include browser based interactive works, locative and place-based non-fiction, augmented and virtual reality works, immersive and data journalism, and other experimental non-fiction narratives.

The symposium aims to encourage critical thinking and making within the field, and to interrogate and share the diverse strategies and practices through which i-docs provide a stage for convening dialogue, creativity and resistance.
