Deaf Conversations About Cinema: Deaf
Mon 15 Sept 20:00
Café & Bar, Watershed
This is a free event, no booking necessary.
Join us at the 18:00 screening of Deaf on Mon 15 Sept which will feature Descriptive Subtitles and an introduction from a guest speaker.
This will be followed at 20:00 by a post screening discussion in the Café & Bar with audience members and our guest speaker. The evening will be hosted by Deaf artist, performer and filmmaker David Ellington and will feature BSL interpretation throughout.
From director Eva Libertad, Deaf follows a young deaf woman Ángela and her hearing partner Héctor, who are expecting a baby.
The film is nuanced depiction of their journey, in which the couple don't know whether their child will be hearing or deaf until birth.
Libertad's clever use of sound and silence immerses us in Ángela's experience and explores the struggles she faces, given the inadequacies of the world for deaf people.
Please join us after the screening in the Café & Bar for an informal discussion, which will include BSL interpretation.
You’ll receive 10% off drinks with your cinema ticket – so grab a glass or a mug of something and let us know your thoughts about Deaf.
