Ragnhild Ekner's film Ultras takes a look at the global phenomenon of football ultras (highly organised groups of passionate fans known for their passionate support) - they are the beating heart of football and a constant source of debate.
As an ultra herself, we start at Ekner's own club IFK Göteborg, and then we visit stands in eight countries, on four continents, from Eastbourne to Casablanca. We get to experience the sparkling energy and atmosphere that is unique for football stands worldwide; there is a distinct passion and community that ultras foster.
At the same time, the film gives us insight into how this fandom can influence and be influenced by its surrounding social context, be that the football clubs themselves or all the way to national politics. Are you in the game?
