Offline Networks

part of Lunchtime Talks

Talk

Please note: This event ended on 19 June 2026

In this Lunchtime Talk, Kate Sim Read will discuss her practice as an artist and researcher working with creative computing in charity and educational settings.

She will explore how interactive systems in public spaces can encourage new ways of learning and communication. Kate will also speak about her current project, Offline Networks, which investigates how digital networks can be created in places with limited infrastructure.

Based in the central area of the Calais refugee camp, the project involves self-hosting a website on a solar-powered computer, exploring how information can be stored and shared in environments without stable buildings or electricity, helping distribute vital information to people living in uncertain conditions.
