Cinematic legend Robert Redford gives an unforgettable final performance as smooth lifelong criminal Forrest Tucker in this based-on-a-true-story cops and robbers tale.
Forrest Tucker has been to jail 18 times and committed countless bank robberies. Now, at the age of 70, he’s made yet another prison escape and is on a nationwide string of heists with the help of his charm, good manners, and colleagues Teddy (Danny Glover) and Waller (Tom Waits). Caught up in his crimes are detective John Hunt (Casey Affleck) who amidst his investigation develops an unusual respect for Tucker’s commitment to his craft, and Jewel (Sissy Spacek), a woman who loves him despite his chosen profession.
With glorious cinematography and a smooth musical score that nods to the gorgeous retro aesthetic of Redford’s classics, The Old Man and the Gun is a gentle yet captivating story that in many ways feels like a metaphor for Redford’s own life as an actor – filled with passion, mischief, and skill that thrives long after youth.
