In his feature debut, world-renowned opera director Damiano Michieletto gives a fictionalised account of Antonio Vivaldi's time as resident composer and violin teacher at the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice. Whilst there he composed most of his major works, told from the perspective of one of his most talented female students.
20-year-old Cecilia is an extraordinary violinist in the Ospedale della Pietà world is suddenly disrupted when a wind of spring awakens something within her, the arrival of a new teacher, composer and maestro di violino, Antonio Vivaldi. His tutelage and mentorship forever change her, as she begins to imagine what her future could look like if she were able to take a different path and embrace her art.
Michieletto’s film is an exceptional example of centring a woman’s story in an historically patriarchal society, modernising a tale never previously told.
