Blue Heron
classified 18 (CTBA)Subtitled screening
Set on Vancouver Island in the late 1990s, Blue Heron follows eight-year-old Sasha as her Hungarian family begins life anew in an unfamiliar home.
What first appears to be a hopeful transition unfurls tension as the eldest brother displays increasingly volatile behaviour, which casts tension over daily life.
Elegantly shot and structurally assured, director Sophy Romvari draws from her own personal childhood experiences to produce a sensitive and atmospheric drama that examines childhood perception, emotional estrangement and the difficulty of understanding those closest to us.
Blue Heron presents a poignant reflection on family bonds, instability, and the fragile nature of memory.
The Mon 29 June 18:00 screening is followed by a Q&A with director Sophy Romvari.
