After a two year pause, applications are now open to join our exciting community of artists, technologists and creatives at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio.
We're calling for creative people who have an idea that needs support to grow and flourish, working at the intersection of creativity and technology. The Studio is made up of everyone from performance artists to product developers, from comedians to creative coders. We are a collaborative community who put conversation before competition, and who support each other's professional and creative development.
"After two years of being closed to applications - the first time we've been closed in 14 years - we are absolutely delighted to open applications again. These'll be open all year around, and we couldn't be more excited to see what people want to bring to life in the Studio." Luke Emery, Studio Producer
What is the Residency offer?
No-one pays to be here. Keeping money at the margins allows us to welcome people with risky, experimental and/or ambitious ideas from all backgrounds and at all stages in their careers.
All Residents get access to the Studio, a hot desk, our meeting rooms and event space.
We are a team of experienced Producers and Researchers, and we are all available to support your work. You also get opportunities to meet with industry experts - from creatives to IP lawyers and accountants - to talk through your ideas. We support Residents with their funding applications as well as their creative and professional development.
Residency enables you to join our active community of Residents, working across a multitude of practices. Our community is over 150 strong, and our wider international network spreads across the globe.
"The members and current residents are all inspiring individuals that help me open the lid on my ideas to find ways of developing and expanding on my ideas. As a creative, I cherish the moments when the process is fun and exciting, and the community at Pervasive helped me find that" Hi5Ghost (Courtney Beckford)
"The Pervasive Media Studio community is incredibly generous with their time + knowledge. I found that the residents' openness with their processes really helped me, think through some of the themes of the project I was working on. I was really grateful for the conversations around surveillance and immersive storytelling." Asmaa Jama
Before you apply
We encourage all applicants to visit us for a weekly Open Studio Friday session from 10:00 to 17:00. This is an opportunity to hot desk with us for a full day. The Studio is wheelchair accessible, with adjustable desks and dedicated quiet space. You don't need to book, just turn up.
Every month, we also host First Friday from 17:00 to 18:00. This is a chance to meet Staff and residents, and to see some Residents work in action.
- Have a browse of our current residents and projects to help to decide if the Studio is for you. If you would like to discuss an application before putting one in, we are always happy to talk to you, just email the Studio Producer on firstname.lastname@example.org

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to join?
No-one pays to be here. Keeping money at the margins allows us to welcome people with brilliant, risky and ambitious ideas from all backgrounds and at all stages in their careers.
Are there ever funded residencies?
We do run several funded residency programmes each year, and regularly produce and signpost other opportunities that have a bursary or funded element involved. These will always be posted in our Opportunities section. Sign up to our monthly newsletter to make sure you don't miss out.
Do I need to apply with a specific idea or project?
We are interested in working with brilliant people with good ideas. It is totally fine, if not preferable in fact, to join us at a moment when you do not have all of the answers about what it is you want to do. We are an active, practice-based research community. We encourage testing of ideas early and iterating, so it does help to have an idea of what you would specifically like to explore with us, including some consideration of what you would do in your first days and weeks here, beyond soaking up the atmosphere.
