The Equality and Human Rights Commission has now published its amended Code of Practice relating to the Equality Act.
We wanted to say directly to our Trans, Nonbinary, Intersex and gender diverse staff, audience and community members that you are loved and recognised at Watershed for who you are.
We will spend some time reading and understanding the draft code – which "does not impose legal obligations. Nor is it an authoritative statement of the law".
It was today approved by the Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities and laid before Parliament for a 40-day period. If neither House disapproves the draft, the new Code will be brought into statute.
We are a member of the Third Sector Against Transphobia network and will continue lifting our voices with others from across the sector in support of Trans+ Rights. You can read the full Third Sector Against Transphobia statement here.
- We recommend the online briefing taking place at 5pm tomorrow by Robyn Newark and Oscar Davies (The Nonbinary Barrister) for people looking to understand what happens now:
- And, if you need any support the LGBT Foundation helpline provides advice and people to talk to: 0345 3 30 30 30. You can call them anytime between 9am until 6pm, Monday to Friday or visit their website.
Inclusion is one of Watershed’s most important values and we work closely with artists and audiences from a very wide range of communities and lived experiences to ensure they feel welcome at Watershed.
