We are getting a new kitchen...

Posted on Fri 13 Nov 2015

We are really excited to announce that we will be refitting our kitchen in December which will involve ripping out the entire space and putting in state of the art, energy efficient kit. Read on to find out what is happening and how this work is going to affect service during the building works. Thank you.

Now is the time for us at Watershed to significantly invest in our catering operation – which is long overdue and very necessary. It’s been over 10 years since we last did any work on this area, and now we need to close the kitchen for a major refurbishment. These building works will turn Watershed’s kitchen into a greener, more sustainable space - it will be more efficient, use less energy and will be a far more pleasant environment for our team to work in.

So during December and early January, Watershed’s kitchen will be completely refitted. We are upgrading our old catering equipment and planning an improved layout to create a new, fit-for-purpose, ergonomic, efficient space. This is just part of our ongoing initiatives to help transform Watershed into a greener, more sustainable venue for the future.

Throughout the building works (until Mon 11 Jan) we will still be serving a menu of soup and sharing plates on recyclable, compostable plates with compostable cutlery and the Bar will remain unaffected (apart from being closed for one day on Mon 30 Nov - please see below for full details of the schedule).

Please note that there will be no Cinébites offers available during December. However, our popular Warm Up at Watershed seasonal hot drinks and promotions will be available - so you can still enjoy a tasty liqueur coffee or mulled wine here with us!

This investment will enable our catering staff to create new and more adventurous menus and delicious dishes to delight our customers in a more comfortable environment. Service to customers should also be smoother and quicker. We will be expanding our food offer with two new menus – one for daytimes, and one more Brasserie-style for evening, available from 16:30 every day.

Whatever time you visit us, you can be sure of a warm Watershed welcome!

James Taljaard, General Manager says:

‘Thanks to Arts Council England we are able to refit our kitchen and catering spaces with state of the art, efficient, low energy use equipment as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure we create a sustainable organisation. We will still be open throughout the kitchen upgrade and will be welcoming customers with our very popular Warm Up drinks range. There will be a smaller menu on offer during December (details below) – apologies in advance for any disruption this work may cause but we promise it will be worth the wait.’

Sunday 29 November

The kitchen will close at 18:00 and the Café/Bar will remain open that evening as usual.

Monday 30 November

The kitchen and Café/Bar will be closed all day. We will not be serving any food or drinks on this day, however the mobile bar will open from 17:00 until 21:00 in the top foyer for our cinema audience.

Service will be as follows:

Soup and sharing plates from 12noon until 20:00 each day, plus packed lunch option for children

We will use disposable and recyclable cups, plates and cutlery for this entire period. Hot drinks - tea/coffee will be served in paper cups. Cold drinks will be served in glass, and alcohol (including Warm Up drinks) will also be served in glass.
