Marcus Smith is a Bristol-based producer, artist and writer.
Marcus Smith is a Bristol-based artist, producer and writer working across sound, immersive media, and digital storytelling.
Marcus was a Creative Practitioner on StoryTrails, the UK's largest immersive storytelling project, which toured nationally and was honoured with a Webby Award and nominated for an SXSW Innovation Award. For StoryTrails he wove together archival footage, augmented reality, and community voices to reimagine local histories as interactive experiences.
As a freelance radio and podcast producer, he creates original content for BBC Radio 4, the BBC World Service, the British Library, AHRC and Bristol community station BCfm, often centred on social and cultural heritage, technology, and the environment. His BBC work has taken him to New York and connected him with stories and collaborators around the world. He also writes and produces content for Bristol-based independent outlets The Bristol Cable and Bristol24/7.
With support from an Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice grant, Marcus recently investigated the relationship between sound and objects across physical and virtual environments. He was also recently selected for Develop XR, delivered by the BFI and Screen South, where he is developing new work that pushes immersive audio and interactive storytelling further into extended reality.
Marcus is a member of FundAction, the participatory grantmaking network, where he recently facilitated a workshop and produced a research paper, Remedies for the Manosphere.
Beyond his practice, Marcus is an avid explorer of Thai food, a follower of football fan TV, a keen traveller, and a committed drinker of redbush tea. He is always looking for new ways to blend technology, storytelling, and culture into accessible, emotionally resonant experiences.
