Please note: This event took place in June 2020

Studio resident Owain Astles joins us for this Lunchtime Talk and asks - how can Participatory Video be used for empowerment and activism, and how do we respond to working in an increasingly virtual space?

Owain is a Bristol-based filmmaker, photographer and visual activist. He’s currently working on a Participatory Video project entitled Homeless Lockdown Diaries, working with people experiencing homelessness to tell their own stories and experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In this talk, Owain will explore the practice of Participatory Video and its uses in empowerment and activism, particularly investigating how the practice is responding to the pandemic and to an artistic space that is increasingly virtual. He will also reflect on working with people experiencing homelessness, his own experiences with the issue, and how art and media can be a tool for reflection and empowerment.
