Tampopo + Ramen Noodle Supper
classified 18 Sold OutPlease note: This was screened in Oct 2021
Compass Presents is delighted to bring this very special screening and food pairing of Juzo Itami’s ‘Ramen noodle western’ Tampopo (1985) to Watershed, with the food provided by local ramen chef Mr Noodle. The screening will also include an introduction from Japanese restauranter Liam Chawdhary (Kansai Kitchen).
Described by the Guardian as ‘a self-assured gem constructed like the bowl of classic ramen the characters strive to cook: a collection of individual parts perfectly arranged’ Tampopo is a homage to cinema as much as it is a love letter to Ramen. When a truck driver stops for noodles at a roadside stall, he embarks on a mission to help the owner Tampopo cook the best Ramen in town and keep her business afloat following the death of her husband.
Part western, part comedy, part gangster film - Tampopo is one of Japanese cinema’s hidden gems, and is sure to leave you craving a bowl of delicious ramen. Luckily you won’t have to wait long, your ticket to this screening also includes a mouth-watering bowl of vegan ramen, cooked by Mr Noodle.
The vegan ramen will be served from the Café & Bar straight after the screening, simply show your ticket in exchange for your bowl of ramen and then either find a seat in and slurp away the rest of the evening or take it to go.
