Building a Martian House: Interiors

Lunchtime Talks

Talk

Please note: This event ended on 16 September 2022

Artists and Studio residents, Ella Good and Nicki Kent, have created a Martian House that currently sits in M Shed Square, co-designed with architects, scientists and the general public. It is a prototype of a house that could be lived in on Mars. It is also a public artwork and a research centre. The interiors are being made with a group of Bristolians re-imagining what the objects of everyday living in a zero-waste environment might look like, filling the inside of the house with inventions, ideas and colour. Join this talk with the artists discussing what has been made so far.

Ella Good and Nicki Kent are Bristol-based artists who are working on an ambitious series about Mars, Earth and the future. Their work is framed around space science as a subject that widens perspective and imagination about how we live here and now on Earth, and provokes conversation about complex, timely topics surrounding our human-planetary relationship: climate, sustainability, community, future cities. They have presented work throughout the UK and internationally, working with local authorities, universities, schools, public parks, science centres, theatres and festivals.

Ella Good and Nicki Kent are both Pervasive Media Studio residents and Building A Martian House was developed in the Studio.
The Pervasive Media Studio is a creative technologies collaboration with Watershed, University of the West of England and University of Bristol.

Open Studio Fridays

From 10:00 - 17:00 you can stay at the Studio for Open Studio Fridays - join us to continue the conversation or work on your own projects. The Studio provides chairs, tables, wireless and a great space. You bring what you need to work with (laptop/mobile). Tell us what you’re up to, or allow us to facilitate conversations within the resident community. Studio staff and residents will be around to chat, answer questions, or tell you more about what we do. The open afternoons close at 17:00, sometimes with a trip to the Café & Bar.

Where to find us

The Lunchtime Talks take place in the Pervasive Media Studio, which is in the Watershed building. The Studio is just beyond the Café & Bar, turn right and then go down the corridor to your left (where the toilets are). The double doors here will be open, go all the way down until you reach the Studio. A member of staff will sign you in, and check your ticket, if you have booked.
