Waleed is an aspiring writer suffering from chronic depression. He develops a friendship with his mysterious neighbour Jalal, a small-time crook. A simple, optimistic, down-to-earth character like Jalal might just be the right person to diffuse the negative effects of Waleed's mental health.

But unbeknownst to Waleed, Jalal's friendliness might have an ulterior motive behind it, leading both of them on a journey of dark encounters.

Set among Haifa’s Arab community, Maha Haj's latest film Mediterranean Fever is a thriller-drama about an unlikely friendship, and an exploration of masculinity and mental illness.
