Please note: This event took place in May 2024

Anyone over the age of 16 with an interest in exploring sound and/or field recording are warmly invited to a series of three workshops where we will explore different ways of listening and connecting with sounds around us, recording them during a walk in the city and then arranging them into personal soundscapes.

Attendees will also have a chance to showcase their work as a part of First Friday in June.

This workshop series will demonstrate that it is easier to start exploring and playing with sound than one may think. You do not need expensive gear and years of experience to start discovering something really interesting. The workshops are very beginner-friendly, participants are not required to have any knowledge or experience in recording or arranging sound.

The only prerequisites are:

  • A smartphone with a voice recorder capability
  • A laptop on which Audacity (free open-source software) can be installed
  • A way of transferring audio files from the phone to the laptop (preferably by USB cable)
  • Headphones compatible with your smartphone and laptop
  • Able to attend all workshop dates, which are Wed 22 May 18:00, Wed 29 May 18:00 and Wed 5 June 18:00

These sessions will be led by Martin Viktorov - a Bristol-based experimental electronic musician, sound and video artist. His practice revolves around creating audio compositions through the use of unconventional processing techniques by combining analog and digital gear, field recording and found sounds.
