After winning the Grierson Award for Best Documentary at last year's London Film Festival, Mother Vera is the visually stark and striking film inspired by co-director Alys Tomlinson's photographic series Ex-Voto.

In a hidden Orthodox monastery in Belarus, the film weaves the inner world of Vera, an unorthodox young nun, with the community surrounding her that saved her life.

Now after 20 years as a monastic, Vera faces deep inner conflict. She must confront her past and trust her instincts to find the liberation she desires.

Presented in partnership with Bristol Doc Club.
