An elderly man inmate, Minoru Akutsu (played by Kaoru Kobayashi in the present and Junki Tozuka in the past), serving a life sentence, awaits a lonely death in his prison cell. The only real sign of life in the cell is a potted balsam flower - hosenka in Japanese.

One night, Minoru begins sharing his life story with the flower - and, improbably, it starts talking back. Through their conversations, Minoru calls his past and reflects on the meaning of his life.

Director Baku Kinoshita's thoughtful and tender anime explores love and life’s changes in a way that everybody can resonate with.

Our cinema seats are 46cm wide, with wooden armrests on either side of each seat that can’t be moved.
