Join Drake Music for Bristol’s first DMLab - a community of makers and musicians from across England, run by disability music charity Drake Music. It is a space for Disabled and non-disabled musicians, technologists, makers and academics to exchange practices and explore new accessible instruments.
DMLab Bristol will feature musicians, designers, engineers and experts of all kinds sharing their ideas and knowledge. It’s a chance for creatives to meet, learn and explore new music tech. No technical skills required!
You’ll have the opportunity to try accessible musical instruments, hear about projects in development, meet other musicians, makers and hackers, and explore ideas for developing new instruments.
What to expect
- 17:30-18:30 - Introduction to assistive music technologies, with demonstrations to spark inspiration.
- 18:30-18:45 - A short break to stretch, refresh, and connect with others.
- 18:45-20:00 - Hands-on session with conversation, experimentation and opportunities to meet others in the room.
You are welcome to drop in and stay for as long as you like.
The sessions are led by the brilliant Dr. Kyle Keane , who specialises in researching, designing and creating technology that can assist and empower people with disabilities. His interest is amplified by the fact that he is blind himself, so brings a specific lived experience expertise around assistive technologies for the visually impaired.
About Drake Music
Drake Music is a national arts charity working across the UK. They are a National Portfolio Organisation for Arts Council England and are also funded through Youth Music. They have been pioneering the use of accessible music technology for over 20 years. This enables more people to make music. In that time, they have developed lots of imaginative methods of teaching, learning, writing and playing music. They are specialists in using technology to break down disabling barriers to making music.
