Diamantino + Q&A
classified 15Subtitled screening
Join us for a very special Q&A screening of Diamantino, to coincide with director Gabriel Abrantes' first solo exhibition in the UK.
A delirious blend of political satire, camp fantasy spectacle and pop absurdity, Diamantino follows the world’s most beloved football star as his seemingly perfect life begins to unravel.
When a refugee crisis, nationalist conspiracies and his own dim-witted innocence collide, Diamantino embarks on an increasingly surreal journey involving cloned puppies, secret agents and global intrigue.
Directed by Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt, this Cannes Critics’ Week Grand Prize winner gleefully skewers celebrity culture, European politics and the mythology of sporting heroism. What begins as a parody of the cult of Cristiano Ronaldo spirals into an outrageous and unexpectedly tender exploration of identity, vulnerability and belonging.
Before this screening of Diamantino, we will also be screening Gabriel Abrantes’ short film A Brief History of Princess X, about the great Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi and how he came to make his infamous Princess X sculpture.
With special thanks to Sarah Garland De Carvalho and Gabriel Abrantes.
