In this week's Lunchtime Talk our very own Lawi Anywar will examine the costs and consequences of music streaming by exploring some ethical alternatives to question how streaming has changed our perception of the value of art.
Lawi will talk about the different ways that we can listen to music. Streaming services now dominate our listening habits, with algorithm driven recommendations leading our ears to new vibrations.
That said, we also know that streaming, as a model, comes with dire consequences for artists and the music industry, as the rising costs of creation, touring, marketing, merchandising and indeed living has made it extremely challenging for artists to make a living from their work, and for music fans to be certain that their money isn’t going to tech giants before their favourite artists. He will present some ethical alternatives and ways we can support artists.
