Book Launch: Father Alberto and the Flying Girl – Timothy X Atack in conversation with Rachel Seiffert
“Dark and strange and wonderful… a marvellous piece of world-building, a celebration of care and a condemnation of the blindness of organised religion.”
Mark Haddon, author of Leaving Home and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Join us for the launch of the vibrant debut novel by Timothy X Atack, award-winning playwright and composer, and Pervasive Media Studio resident.
Published by Chatto & Windus, Father Alberto and the Flying Girl is set in medieval times and tells the tale of an idealistic young priest who, inspired by a bizarre annual tradition in his parish, begins a quest to change the treatment of madness.
Alongside readings from the book and a Q&A, Tim will be joined in conversation by critically acclaimed novelist Rachel Seiffert, author of the Walter Scott Prize-shortlisted Once the Deed is Done and the Booker Prize-shortlisted The Dark Room.
The launch is co-hosted by Gloucester Road Books, with copies of the novel for sale at the event.
Bold, vivid and darkly funny, Father Alberto and the Flying Girl is a fiercely imaginative story about kindness, society and so-called madness; about getting things wrong - and hope.
