Whisperings of the Moon (2025)
Lai Yuqing’s (Two Suns) feature debut Whisperings of the Moon is a thoughtful and mature meditation on love and the heavy weight of familial expectation.
Stage actress Nisay must return home to Cambodia following her father’s passing. Reconnecting with the country she left behind, sparks are rekindled with her once-forbidden lover, Thida. Bound by rigid expectations, their passion exists purely through memory fragments and performance, born from her time in the safe artistic community of Phnom Penh.
Director Lai Yuqing beautifully portrays the complex emotions of the queer Pan-Asian experience and the pains of unspoken desire between women.
Tragically, Yuqing passed away in December 2025 at the age of 23. We are proud to present her feature with the accompanying retrospective short film Love is a Book, honouring her short-lived yet profound legacy to new queer cinema.
Love is a Book (2024)
In many ways the prototype to Whisperings of the Moon, Love is a Book delicately weaves two interconnected queer romances. One follows two men whose bond through a sexual relationship gradually begins to deepen, while the other captures the clashing past and present realities of desire between reunited female lovers.

This screening will include an introduction from Queer Vision.
