Based on the Japanese manga of the same name, Oldboy is a visceral masterpiece of South Korean cinema and the violent second instalment of Park Chan-wook’s Vengeance Trilogy.
The film follows Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik), a man inexplicably imprisoned in a hotel-like cell for fifteen years, who embarks on a frantic, violent quest for vengeance upon his release. Directed with immense flair by Park Chan Wook Oldboy blazed a trail at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival where it was lauded by that year’s President of the Jury, Quentin Tarantino. The film went on to become a huge international smash, thrilling audiences with its visceral concoction of filmmaking virtuosity, ingenious plotting, pathos and violence.
A 4K restoration from the original camera negative supervised by director Park Chan-wook c/o Arrow Films.
