Before the era of YouTube mashups and compilation videos, a young Joe Dante (Matinee) and producer Jon Davison (Piranha) created The Movie Orgy (1968).

Dubbed “The World’s first Found Footage Megamix”, the pair spliced together an apartment’s worth of B-movies, commercials, gameshows, TV bloopers and more 40s, 50s, and 60s popular cultural moments on 16mm print into a seven-hour marathon. Lack of ownership rights and its sizable length meant the film was only seen in backrooms and college campuses, no experience the same with clips being switched and edited after each screening.

Now, with thanks to American Genre Film Archive and Vinegar Syndrome, The Movie Orgy has been remastered under the supervision of Joe Dante and Jon Davison, bringing this celluloid supercut ahead of its time on to the big screen.
