Pauline Loquès’s remarkable debut feature, which premiered at Cannes Critics’ Week, is a beautiful ode to the heyday of French New Wave filmmaking.

On the eve of his 29th birthday, Nino (Théodore Pellerin, Lurker) is blindsided by the devastating news he has throat cancer. Told he must start aggressive treatment within days, and bank his sperm if he hopes to start a family, a life of delayed decisions and casual commitments suddenly becomes urgent. When he randomly bumps into an old school friend, he embarks on a journey of introspection on the streets of Paris, as he come to terms with his life – past and present – and begins to reconnect with friends, his family and himself.

With Nino, Loquès presents a delicate, humane portrait of a young man facing mortality with surprising resilience. It’s a moving reflection on what we share- and what we keep to ourselves - when time suddenly feels short.

WATERSHED RECOMMENDS
"Théodore Pellerin gives a César-winning performance in this beautifully nuanced debut feature from French director Pauline Loquès. It’s a subtle, naturalistic performance that compellingly draws you in."
