The final instalment of The Sleepover Season, from director Gurinda Chadha, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging is presented as every cinematic classic should be: on a 35mm print.
Fourteen-year-old Georgia Nicholson and her best friends, ‘The Ace Gang’ are up against the odds: daunting beauty standards, mortifyingly embarrassing parents, and falling somewhere close to the bottom of the secondary school hierarchy. Georgia chronicles her attempt to organise her 15th birthday party and make the hot new boy in school her boyfriend; whilst desperately trying to not lose herself, her friends, and her cat in the messy process.
Chadha's endlessly quotable script pokes fun at this agony of navigating 2010’s teenager-hood with iconic lines that defined heterosexual boundaries – “but boys don’t like girls for funny”.
Funny, iconic, and slightly misjudged fancy hors d'oeuvres costumes are highly encouraged. Come cringe along with us, get ready to tell us your teenage confessions, and revel in some heartfelt nostalgia.
