Enabling Digital Storytelling from Remote or Offline Communities
Lunchtime Talks
Please note: This event took place in Feb 2016
Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.
On Our Radar is a storytelling organisation that specialise in getting perspectives from some of the most remote and marginalised communities, often using simple technology solutions to overcome connectivity issues.
They have used an SMS and audio hub to gather stories of the Ebola crisis from remote and offline communities in Sierra Leone, and are continuing to work with these communities to track the country's recovery process. They are currently running a UK project called Dementia Diaries, using custom-built 3D-printed phones to capture day-to-day life of people living with dementia. The company has also worked with care leavers, young homeless people, labour activists in India and run SMS election-reporting projects in Kenya and Nigeria.
In this week's talk, On Our Radar’s Editorial and Engagement Manager Paul Myles, will join us to talk about some of their most recent projects.
The Pervasive Media Studio is located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour and we'll be happy to show you around. Send an email to admin@pmstudio.co.uk
