"Before Beyonce and Rihanna, there was Tina. What's Love Got To Do With It? is a landmark film, which placed the issue of domestic violence at the centre of public discourse in America when it came out in 1993.

"Drawing on Angela Basset and Laurence Fishburne's raw performances, the film re-invigorated the genre of the biopic with its groundbreaking - and at times unexpected - feminist perspective on an industry where that is often all-too lacking.”

- Dr Madhu Krishnan, University of Bristol lecturer and critic

Tina Turner's story is like the song: river deep, mountain high - a tale of ambition, talent, desire; drugs, violence and despair. This unflinching biopic lets you experience the highs and lows of Anna Mae Bullock - soon to be Tina Turner - from a Tennessee church choir country girl to her meteoric rise to stardom, turbulent marriage to Ike and how she eventually gained the courage to break free.

Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne give powerhouse Oscar®-nominated performances as Tina and Ike, all strutting sex appeal, swagger and savage dominance. As you would expect from a film based on Turner's autobiography and on which the woman herself acted as on-set adviser, this is an unflinching and uplifting story with a phenomenal soundtrack. Join us for a tribute to one of the world's most exciting, high energy music stars!

Survivor, sex symbol, rock and roll legend - Tina Turner is the embodiment of FIERCE. Join us in the Café/Bar before the film from 22:00 - 23:00 where we'll be playing all of Tina's stellar back catalogue. Bristol's finest poets will also come together in the cinema in a spoken word homage to the legendary star before the screening.
