In this roaming, radiant rock ‘n' roll romance of the kind that only Terrence Malick could make, two entangled couples — struggling songwriters Faye and BV (Mara and Gosling), and manipulative music mogul Cook (Fassbender) and waitress Rhonda (Portman, whom he ensnares) — chase success through a landscape of seduction and betrayal. Following their hearts and dreams through Texas’ music capital, they soon become embroiled in a love triangle but find that attaining professional and romantic success is ever elusive.

Shot on location at Austin's three largest festivals, the all-star cast also features Cate Blanchett, Holly Hunter and Val Kilmer, as well as appearances by a who's who of music icons including Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Florence Welch, Lykke Li, the Black Lips, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and John Lydon. And with three-time Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki providing images of staggering beauty, Malick has crafted another deeply felt, poetic musing about creativity, connection and chaos in the modern world.
