Anima

Two of Britain’s top animators – Barry Purves (animator, writer and director) and Peter Lord (co-founder of the legendary Aardman Animations) took to the stage to discuss puppet animation and claymation as part of the Kawamoto the Puppet Master season at Watershed in March 2008.

They talk candidly about how their own animation careers began and the threat of computer generated animation to traditional stop motion methods. They argue that stop motion is a more intimate, inventive practice and elaborate on the challenges they have faced as technology and film has evolved.

This panel discussion was a highlight of the Kawamoto the Puppet Master season – a unique programme of films and talks presented by Watershed that celebrated the work of Japanese stop motion animator Kihachiro Kawamoto, one of the most influential figures in his field.
