Marketa is the Director of the Fashion in Film Festival. An art historian, curator, and writer, she explores the intersections between fashion, art, and the moving image. She has curated film programmes for major arts and cinema institutions internationally and published books including If Looks Could Kill: Cinema's Images of Fashion, Crime and Violence (2008) and the award-winning Birds of Paradise: Costume as Cinematic Spectacle (2013). Her writing has appeared in journals, magazines and exhibition catalogues, including Fashion Theory, Screen, Aperture, Oxford Handbook of Film Theory and AnOther.

The production, dispersal and eventual re-distribution of clothing is one of the protagonists of the climate crisis. This programme of short films zooms in on the term ‘waste colonialism’ and reveals the ways in which creativity can be deployed to amplify collective concerns.

This screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmakers Meghna Gupta, Yayra Agbofah &
Jeremy Hutchison, hosted by Matthew Needham. The introduction and panel discussion will feature British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation.

The presence of gods and spirits inhabiting the natural world is a recurring motif in the work of Dutch artist Melanie Bonajo and Spanish filmmaker Rocío Mesa.

With an introduction by festival co-founder Christel Tsilibaris.

Christel Tsilibaris is one of Fashion in Film Festival’s co-founders, and its co-curator until 2008. She is an art historian and curator, currently serving as the Curatorial Projects Coordinator at the Centre for Fine Arts – Bozar in Brussels. Her recent curatorial work at the museum includes the exhibitions Love is Louder and Monira Al Qadiri: The Archaeology of Beasts (both 2024-2025). She has recently expanded her involvement to collaborate with Bozar's Cinema Department on their "Art + Film" series, where she acts as an advisor and curator for select projects.
