"One of the best films I've ever seen" - Attitude
A genre-defying queer epic, rooted in the legacy of beloved writer Federico García Lorca, La Bola Negra tells the story of three men whose lives are intimately connected through desire, pain and inheritance, across three different eras.
Spain, 1932. A young man awaits to see if he has secured membership of the local casino. In 1937, a young nationalist soldier guards a republican prisoner. Jump to 2017 and an unexpected document is inherited by an historian from his grandfather.
Rich with Lorca's poetry, this is a dazzlingly constructed and performed triptych and a sweeping exploration of memory and queer history, honouring those whose lives and loves were too often forced into silence.
The Sat 7 Nov 14:20 screening is presented in partnership with Lorena Pino from Latinas in Bristol Film Club, who will introduce the film and host a Latinas in Bristol meet-up in the Café & Bar afterwards.
The Wed 11 Nov 17:00 screening will be followed by a ‘Thought in Action’ discussion, presented in partnership with the Philosophy and Politics & International Relations Departments at UWE.
