Bristol, we're back (again)! We are re-opening the doors to our building on Tue 18 May

Posted on Wed 12 May 2021

We're back! We're super excited that on Tue 18 May we'll be re-opening the doors to the Watershed building. The Café and Bar will re-open on Tuesday and then on Wednesday our cinema programme will begin again and Undershed, our brand new outdoor bar on the Harbourside, will also officially open.

We've got a brilliant opening cinema programme with some of this year's top award-winning films including; NomadlandMinariJudas and the Black Messiah and Sound of Metal to name a few. We'll also be hosting Festival of Ideas Online: Jessica Bruder - Is Nomadland Our Future?, our first audience hybrid event in partnership with Festival of Ideas, a free live-streamed Q&A with journalist and author Jessica Bruder who will be talking about her book Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century, which was the inspiration for the Oscar® winning film. Audiences in the cinema will be able to take part the live Q&A from their seats following the 14:10 screening on Sat 22 May or can tune into the event from home if they are not quite ready to venture back into the building just yet.

Similar to our last re-opening of the building, we’ve listened to our audiences and staff about what they need from us and the current safety measures in place will continue to ensure that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable experience. The full details of all our measures can be found online here

Like the cinemas we're continuing to reduce the capacity in the Café and Bar, and so we are asking customers to please book a table in advance if they can to avoid disappointment. However we still welcome walk-ups if we have the space and of course we now also have Undershed, our new outdoor bar.

Clare Reddington, Watershed CEO says:

"We are all so excited to reopen the building and welcome staff, audiences, partners and friends back. Togetherness sits at the heart of everything we do, and whilst we have been very busy over the last year, having an open and welcoming building plays a huge part in our value.

"We have learnt loads from working online and are committed to exploring blended ways to keep reaching audiences in the ways that work best for them, but for now - if you can, come on in, try out Undershed, our glorious outside space, and let's hope we are open for a while!"

Mark Cosgrove our Cinema Curator says of the reopening programme:

“I am delighted to be reopening the cinema with a line up of award winners including Chloé Zhao’s Oscar winning Nomadland and Judas and the Black Messiah with a Best Actor Oscar performance from Daniel Kaluuya. It’s great to be reminded of the excitement and pleasure of seeing films back on the big screen and we have a lot of exciting screenings, festivals and events for audiences coming up over the next few months.

See the full re-opening programme here - tickets are now available to book and due to the limited capacity we would encourage everyone to book their tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
