Watershed announces new year-long programme around the theme of ‘Listen’
Posted on Mon 12 Oct
2027 brings many reasons to sound the alarm. Loud images compete for our eyeballs, words are shouted into echo chambers and birdcall disappears from a warming world. And yet, if we pay attention, hope vibrates all around. Sound systems refuse to be silent, storytelling brings us together, music keeps us dancing, and sonic waves get under our skin, changing what we see and feel. Next year at Watershed we will listen carefully. And we will make some noise.
This programme will be developed in partnership with Deaf and Disabled artists and audiences, exploring the many different ways that our bodies listen.
Things to listen out for...
-
An exciting collaboration with minirig to create a collective listening space in Undershed with a custom-built sound system. Spend time with your favourite artists, tune into the changing sounds of the natural world and revel in Bristol’s diverse music cultures.
-
Thought in Action, a collaboration with UWE Bristol that will dig deep into the philosophy and politics of listening through a programme of screenings and discussions.
-
Film seasons that celebrate the composers and sound designers who changed storytelling forever. Explore the history (and future) of film as we celebrate 100 years of sync image and sound.
Throughout the year we will bring you talks, discussions, and workshops. Experiment with field recording and foley, learn about AI and voice cloning, listen in the dark and much much more.
