Writer/director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) returns with a fresh interpretation of Louisa May Alcott's beloved 1868 novel, the Civil War era story of the March sisters, four young women each determined to live life on their own terms - and the result is extraordinary.
Drawing on both the timeless novel and the writing of Alcott, it unfolds as the author's fierce and confident alter ego, Jo (Saoirse Ronan), reflects back and forth on her fictional life. Ronan leads an incredible cast - including Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Timothée Chalamet, Laura Dern and Meryl Streep - in a vibrant adaptation that brings a timely, daring new perspective (and bold storytelling choices) to a classic story.
Positively brimming with life and warmth, Gerwig's Little Women is being hailed as one of the best films of the year (with some going so far to name it as one of the best in the young century!). It's a film that has been made, clearly, with a lot of love - a perfect family Christmas treat. Enjoy.
