Punk is dead! Long live the New Romantics!

Capturing the spirit of a crowd of flamboyant fashionistas from the streets of East London, Kevin Hegge’s debut feature length documentary about Britain’s New Romantics – the iconic fashion and musical movement of the late 1970s / early 1980s – offers a portrait of a rare moment in modern history in which art and identity came together to create a beautiful shift in British society.

Centring around key members of this movement, Tramps! explores how a long-established sense of hedonism was unexpectedly stomped out by the AIDS crisis, while elements of it flooded out from the underground to completely take over the mainstream through 90s rave culture.

A life-affirming documentary, repositioning the New Romantics as an art movement rather than an exclusively pop-cultural one.
