Join Dáire Carson (The Little Film Society) for a special shadow puppet making workshop inspired by the work of Lotte Reiniger, the foremost pioneer of silhouette animation. Drawing inspiration from fairy tales, classic children’s books, operas, and biblical stories, her work belongs to the tradition of the delicate, hand-cut silhouettes and lantern-lit shadow puppets. Her intricate cutouts and groundbreaking use of a special camera that she developed a decade before the technique was made famous by studios such as Walt Disney. You’ll get to design your very own cut out characters and bring them to life with some card, clue and light!
Presented by Dáire Carson (The Little Film Society) in collaboration with South West Silents with thanks to the BFI National Archive as part of Other Ways of Seeing, supported by BFI awarding funds from National Lottery.
